NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- A total of 39 student-athletes from the University of South Dakota have been named to the Great West Conference's Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference team, the league announced on Friday.

Women's Indoor/Outdoor Track led the way with nine selections, while softball placed seven on the team. Men's Indoor/Outdoor Track had five athletes named to the team, while women's basketball had four.

USD also led the way with four student-athletes with 4.0 GPAs: Nick Beare (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.), Chad Pinkelman (So., Norfolk, Neb.), Alexa Duling (So., Gregory, S.D.) and Crystal Schiernbeck (Jr., Ida Grove, Iowa).

USD had 24 student-athletes earn their second straight all-academic honors from the Great West including senior Bryan Aberle (Timberlake, S.D.), senior Tyler Cain (Rochester, Minn.), junior Abby Doorn (Spencer, Iowa), senior Danielle Dornbusch (Papillion, Neb.), junior Andrew Duba (Sioux Falls, S.D.), sophomore Emma Erickson (Gayville, S.D.), senior Jenessa Filler (Crooks, S.D.), senior Jasey Goedeken (Columbus, Neb.), senior Corey Gross (Sioux Falls, S.D.), sophomore Amber Hegge (Crofton, Neb.), senior Tia Haines (White Lake, S.D.), senior Kara Iverson (Yankton, S.D.), junior Mel Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.), senior Michelle Jones (Rapid City, S.D.), junior Haley Juhnke (Vivian, S.D.), junior Erica Krull (North Butler, Iowa), junior Jessica Lussman (Storm Lake, Iowa), senior Kelsey Maloney (Sioux Falls, S.D.), junior Haley Peterson (Norfolk, Neb.), sophomore Annie Roche (Vermillion, S.D.), senior Melanie Rockne (Yankton, S.D.), junior Crystal Schiernbeck (Ida Grove, Iowa), senior Rijalda Zejnic (Hamilton, Ontario) and junior Steph Zavilla (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

To be eligible for the Great West All-Academic team, athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.2 grade point average. The athletes also must have participated in at least 50 percent of their respective team's contests. Using the institutions' most recent GPA, the student-athletes are selected by each member institution's sports information director, with approval from the faculty athletic representative and the head coach. First-year students and JC transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
