Afton Keiser scored her first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the South Dakota women's soccer team fell to Mountain West Conference foe Wyoming, 3-1 in nonconference action Friday in Laramie, Wyo. Wyoming moved to 6-4-1 on the year while the Coyotes fell to 0-6-2.
Keiser (Sioux Falls, S.D.) scored her goal at the 57:35 mark to cut the Wyoming lead to 3-1, but the Coyotes were unable to close the gap further.
Keiser finished with both shots on goal for the Coyotes. Junior Erin Bello (Fort Collins, Colo.) sophomore Jenny Teslow (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshmen Makena Cameron (Cheyenne, Wyo.) and Kylee Willer (Fort Collins, Colo.) had shots for the Coyotes, who were outshot 19-6 in the game.
Freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor (Fort Collins, Colo.) played the first half and had four saves while allowed two goals, while freshman Kayla Wegman (Omaha, Neb.) had two saves and one goal allowed in playing the second half.
South Dakota resumes action Sunday at Northern Colorado. Game time is 1 p.m. Central time in Greeley, Colo. The Coyotes return home for their Summit League debut on Sept. 30 against Western Illinois.
