AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman
Emily Grove won the Section B of the women's pole vault to lead the South Dakota track and field teams in competition Friday at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The meet is one of the largest outdoor events of the collegiate track season.
Grove (Pontiac, Ill.) set a personal-best of 13-9 1/4 in winning the section, topping athletes from Duke, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Texas A&M in the competition. That mark is closing in on the school outdoor record of 14-2 1/2 set by sophomore Bethany Buell (St. Louis, Mo.) at the Aztec Open on March 16.
Junior Alexa Duling (Gregory, S.D.) ran a time of 14.20 in the 100-meter hurdles but did not qualify for the finals. A day earlier, she set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Kenna Wolter (Santa Maria, Calif.) recorded a jump of 39-2 1/2 in the triple jump and placed 15th in Section A.
Buell will be the final Coyote to compete at the event on Saturday as she will compete in the pole vault. The Coyotes will also have athletes competing at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Wildcat Classic in Wayne, Neb., on Saturday.
