Big second half propels USD women past Bison

FARGO, N.D. – The South Dakota women outscored North Dakota State 42-15 during the second half en route to a 73-52 win at the Bison Sports Arena on Thursday night.

Nicole Seekamp recorded her fourth 20-point game of the season by scoring 14 of her 20 points in the second half.  She also tallied a season-high six steals.  Tempestt Wilson had 15 points and Polly Harrington tallied 10 points.  Margaret McCloud led South Dakota (7-8, 2-0) in rebounding and came one point shy of a double-double for the third time this season with nine points and 13 rebounds.

Dani DeGagne led North Dakota State (4-10, 0-2) with 17 points while Jamie Van Kirk added 14 points.  The Bison shot 25 percent in the second half after shooting 52 percent in the first half.

The Bison led by 13 in the first half after Brittney Gaines hit a 3-pointer to make it 34-21 with 3:20 left, but the Coyotes outscored the Bison 52-18 the rest of the game.  USD was able to work the lead down to 37-31 at half with Wilson scoring five points during that 10-3 run.

USD started the second half with a 14-0 run that lasted over the first 7:40 of the second half.  The Yotes forced six turnovers and drew five fouls in that span.  

NDSU cut the lead down to one (47-46) with 9:52 left, but ran out of steam while trailing 53-50 with six minutes left.  Seekamp started a 20-2 run that lasted the rest of the game by hitting a 3-pointer with 5:58 left and then came up with a steal and a layup on the ensuing possession.

The win keeps USD in a tie with South Dakota State (10-5, 2-0) at the top of the Summit League standings.  The Coyotes play at South Dakota State on Sunday 2 p.m.
