Nov. 24, 2013

Final Stats

VERMILLION, S.D.--South Dakota guard Nicole Seekamp scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Coyotes to a 74-61 win against Boise State in the Coyotes' home opener Sunday inside the DakotaDome.

The win ends a four-game skid for the Coyotes (2-4), who have won 11 of their last 15 home openers. Boise State fell to 2-3. The Broncos were the first of three Mountain West teams South Dakota will face in the next two weeks.

Polly Harrington and Raeshel Contreras scored 14 points each for the Coyotes. Contreras hit a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer that gave USD a 37-36 halftime lead. South Dakota scored 14 unanswered points near the start of the second half and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Harrington had seven points during the run.

Brandi Henton came off Boise State's bench to score a team-high 18 points. Lexie Der added 11 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double. The Broncos made 9 of 41 shots in the second half and shot 30 percent (22-for-72) for the game.

Seekamp did a little of everything for the Coyotes. She knocked down three of South Dakota's eight 3-pointers, grabbed four rebounds, stole three passes, had two assists and blocked one shot. Seekamp had 15 points at the break and finished 10-of-19 from the field.

The Coyotes had a 50-37 edge on the boards and made just as many free throws (16) as the Broncos attempted. Their bench, led by Contreras, contributed 21 points and 19 rebounds.

South Dakota returns to the court at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in Omaha, Neb., against Creighton.
