South Dakota golf opens spring season in Arizona

SEDONA, Ariz.--South Dakota's golf team placed 18th of 21 teams at the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona and Oak Creek Country Club Saturday and Sunday. Toledo won the 36-hole event with a team total of 605 (+29), four strokes better than Cal State Northridge.

Junior Hailey Sheldahl, who missed the fall season due to injury, led the Coyotes at 25-over-par, good for 91st place out of a field of 125. Jordan Rearick was 27-over-par and Stephanie Rodgers was 29-over-par. Victoria Grasso (+32) and Janice Baumberger (+33) rounded out USD's lineup.

Clariss Guce of Cal-State Northridge won the event at 2-over-par. Amelia Ek of UC Riverside and Kelsey Chugg of Weber State finished one stroke back.

It was the first event of the spring season for the Coyotes who will compete in the Drake-Monterey Bay Tournament in California March 17-19.
