Final Stats

LARAMIE, Wyo.—University of South Dakota freshman Jamie Karch scored her first collegiate goal in the ninth minute of overtime as the Coyotes (1-1-1) handed Wyoming (1-1-1) its first loss, 2-1, Friday at Madrid Complex.

Karch was recently named Daily News All-Area Girls Soccer Team Player of the Year following a brilliant senior season at Germantown High School in Wisconsin. She notched her first collegiate assist Friday in addition to netting the game winner

It was an up and down game and I was just glad we didn't get down after they tied it late, said Karch. My whole family was here including my aunt Cindy, who drove from California, so it was definitely exciting.

USD junior Makena Cameron, who broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 71st minute, headed a goal kick near the end of the first overtime that bounced between two Cowgirl defenders and towards the goal. Karch streaked past the defense and drilled a right-footed shot under the arms of Wyoming keeper Alex Boehm and into the net.

Makena's ball went up and over the top of their defenders and our speedy, fast freshman ran by them and slipped it under the goalkeeper, said USD head coach Mandy Green. Wyoming is a great team, but (USD goalkeeper) Mackenzie came up huge and all of our defenders played an excellent game.

Viktor faced 14 shots and made five saves for the Coyotes. Green credited Kaiti Porter, Sam Harvey, Lauren Bennett, Colleen Reeves and Kasha Meyer for an outstanding defensive effort.

The one Wyoming shot that got through came off the foot of Lucie McDowell, who received a perfect cross from Sara Paul and buried a game-tying goal with less than six minutes to go in regulation. It was McDowell's second goal in three games.

South Dakota returns to the pitch at noon MT Sunday against UCCS, a Division II program in Colorado Springs, Colo.
