LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—South Dakota fired 11 balls into the back of the net for a new school record during Friday's game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Coleman Sports Complex in Little Rock, Ark. Nine different Coyotes netted a goal for South Dakota, with juniors Danielle Anderson and Taylor Nivala tallying two apiece.
South Dakota (3-0-0) outshot Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-2-0) 36-2 with 23 of the Coyotes' shots being on goal for a 63 percent shot-on-goal percentage. Both of the Golden Lions' shots were on target, but saved by freshman goalkeeper Sydney Hardin, who earned her first win in goal for the Coyotes after subbing in for junior Mackenzie Viktor in the first half.
Junior Danielle Anderson scored twice in the first 14 minutes to push USD to a 3-0 lead. Freshman Maddie Vang made it 4-0 in the 20th minute with an unassisted goal, her second of the season. Nivala made it 5-0 in the 27th minute, then scored three minutes into the second half to make it 6-0.
Twenty-seven Coyotes logged at least 16 minutes Friday and all but one played at least 23. Sophomores Brooke Watson and Brenna Bills scored their first collegiate goals. Junior Colleen Reeves, sophomore Corey Strang, junior Teagan Eberle and senior Kaiti Porter also scored for the Coyotes.
Before today, the most goals South Dakota scored in a single game was eight. This feat was accomplished four different times, with the most recent coming against Wayne State College in 2008.
South Dakota's second game of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Invitational in Little Rock will be played at noon on Sunday against Arkansas-Little Rock.
