VERMILLION, S.D.--Two back-to-back goals by Wyoming in the second half upset South Dakota 2-1 on Friday at the USD Sports Complex in Vermillion.
Junior Taylor Nivala scored a header in the seventh minute to give the Coyotes (4-3-0) an early lead. The ball was crossed in off a free kick by Brittney Baker and bounced around in the box before Nivala connected for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
South Dakota held onto the 1-0 lead until the 57th minute when the Cowgirls scored as the result of Sammi Dunda's free kick being sent into the box, where Alisha Bass met the ball in the air with a header. A minute later, Cowgirl Kaitlyn Lomsnes played the ball past Viktor to teammate Laurel Ramer who scored the game-winning goal.
Wyoming kept the ball near the Coyote goal box for a majority of the second half, taking seven corner kicks in the half. Junior Mackenzie Viktor had seven saves in goal for the Coyotes.
South Dakota returns to USD Sports Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they take on the Creighton Bluejays.
