OMAHA, Neb. - Senior middle blocker Melissa Firtko had a season-high 16 kills while senior outside hitter Kendall Kritenbrink added 15 kills as South Dakota volleyball topped Omaha 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20 in Summit League play on Tuesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Firtko had 16 kills and three errors on 29 attacks for an attack percentage of .448. It's the fifth time this season she's recorded an attack percentage over .400 in a match.
Outside Firtko and Kritenbrink, two more Coyotes (9-6, 3-0) recorded double-digit kills. Audrey Reeg recorded 12 kills and 15 digs for her fifth double-double of the season while Sydney Dimke tallied 11 kills. Riley Haug notched 24 digs and Brittany Jessen had 55 assists and three service aces.
Omaha (6-10, 1-2) was led by Kelley Wollak's 16 kills and Kimberly Bailey's 21 digs. Michaela Schimmer had 24 assists.
South Dakota out-killed Omaha 65-42 and had 30 more attacks (170-140) than the Mavericks in the match. USD also held a slight edge in aces (5-3), but committed 31 attack errors to Omaha's 16.
The Coyotes had just as many kills as they had digs (18 each) in the first set with two players recording attack percentages over .500. Reeg had six kills on nine attacks (.667) while Firtko recorded five kills on eight attacks (.571). USD strung together a pair of 5-1 runs to take control of the set.
Omaha trailed for only one point in the second set and scored six of the set's last eight points. Wollak had five kills to lead Omaha in the set while Bailey dug out seven Coyote attacks.
South Dakota had a 10-1 run during their set three win. The run turned a 12-10 Omaha lead to a 20-13 edge for USD. Jessen had two aces and a kill while Kritenbrink added three kills during that 11-point stretch.
USD finished the match by tallying 21 kills in the final set while holding Omaha to just eight kills. Dimke, Kritenbrink and Firtko had five kills each in the set while Haug tallied nine digs.
South Dakota will travel to IUPUI (8-9, 2-0) for a match on Friday night at 6 p.m.
