VERMILLION, S.D. — Sarah Schmid led the Pioneers with 13 kills and had an impressive .706 hitting percentage as Denver (22-6, 10-3 SL) swept the Coyotes (11-14, 5-7 SL) 25-17, 25-21, 25-17 Tuesday night in the Coyote Den.
Cassie Baird also had double-digit kills for the Pioneers with 10 and Ruth Okoye had seven kills with an attack percentage of .778.
Moni Corrujedo had 22 assists and Piyusha Boteju added 15 more.
On defense, Monique Domme and Cassidy Rooke had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Junior
Audrey Reeg led the Coyotes with 12 kills and sophomore setter
Brittany Jessen had a match-high 34 assists.
Freshman
Hayley Dotseth had 10 digs on the defensive side.
The Coyotes kept the start of the first set close. With Denver up 10-8, the Pioneers went on a 10-6 run putting them up 20-14. Okoye and Rooke had two kills apiece for Denver. The Pioneers would go on to win the set.
In set two, the score was tied 10 times. The score was tied at 19 when Schmid had three kills during a 6-2 run as the Pioneers won the second set. Denver would use that momentum going forward as they won set three and the match.
The Coyotes are back in action on Friday at Macomb, Ill., against Western Illinois at 7 p.m.
