USD 3, SDSU 1

VERMILLION, S.D. — Junior Audrey Reeg and freshman Hayley Dotseth both had a double-double in kills and digs on Senior Day as the Coyotes (13-14, 7-7 SL) knocked off the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (4-26, 3-11) 19-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 on Sunday in the Coyote Den.

"I think today was very emotional for our seniors," said South Dakota head coach Leanne Williamson. "All four seniors have given so much to this program and were determined on going out on a high note. I'm glad the seniors could go out with success."

Dotseth led the Coyote attack with 13 kills and added 17 digs, while Reeg had 11 kills and 14 digs.

Senior Kelsey Biltoft also had double-digit kills with 11 and hit an impressive .611. On defense, Biltoft had two solo blocks and three block assists.

"Today was a good day," said Biltoft. "I definitely couldn't have contributed without the help of my teammates. I have a great team behind me."

Sophomore setter Brittany Jessen had a match-high 45 assists as she kept the offense going. She also contributed with eight digs and seven kills.

Senior Kaitlyn Hastings added to the defensive column with 12 digs.

"With family members around, today was very emotional," said Hastings. "But once the game started, the team focused up and ready to go."

Red shirt junior Haley Jorgensen, who will forego her senior season, helped out the offensive attack with eight kills.

"Today was bittersweet," said Jorgensen. "But this was a great ending in the den, however we want to get to the league tournament and make some noise."

In set one, the Jackrabbits started strong. With the score tied at 6, South Dakota State scored the next six of the next seven points to take a 12-7 lead. The Jackrabbits took the first set 25-19.

The Coyotes bounced back in set two. Again with the score tied at six, Dotseth and Reeg had back-to-back kills to put South Dakota up 8-6. With South Dakota up 10-7, the Coyotes scored five straight. Biltoft and junior Lindsey Brown had back-to-back kills to start the run and Reeg had a kill to finish it off. The Coyotes would keep the pressure on SDSU throughout the rest of the set and tie the match at one game apiece, taking set two 25-18.

South Dakota continued their strong play through the third set. With the score tied at 11, Jessen, Biltoft, and Dotseth combined for three straight kills which prompted a Jackrabbit timeout. During the next stretch, Dotseth and Jorgensen each had a kill and Reeg served an ace as Sotuh Dakota State called another timeout. On the next play, Biltoft and Jorgensen combined for a block and the Coyotes had a 19-11 lead. During that run, the Coyotes scored eight straight points with Reeg serving. South Dakota continued its dominace and a block assist by Brown and Reeg won set three 25-16 for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes kicked off the fourth and final set on a 7-0 run. During the run, Jessen had a service ace, Biltoft had two kills and, Reeg and Jorgensen added one apiece. The Coyotes kept rolling as Dotseth had back-to-back kills to increase the lead to 12-4. South Dakota would go on to win set four 25-13 and take the match.

Senior Sydney Dimke was also honored today. Dimke has been out for the second half off the season with an injury. Williamson said Dimke has really stepped into a leadership role for the team.

"When Sydney went down, it was rough," said Williamson. "However, Sydney has been a big part moving forward and talking to her teammates and keeping them positive throughout the second half of the year.

"At this time of the season we want to be playing the best volleyball that we can," said Williamson. "Our team has been really good about learning from errors and setbacks and that will help us moving forward. This win just adds to our confidence as we're fighting for a tournament spot."

Today was the final game in the Coyote Den. South Dakota will finish the season on the road as the team travels to Indianapolis, Ind., on Friday to take on IUPUI at 6 p.m. and then to Fort Wayne, Ind., on Saturday for a matchup against Fort Wayne also at 6 p.m.
