LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — South Dakota sophomore Brenna Lervick shot 3-under-par (69) to finish second with a three round total of 2-over-par (77-72-69=218) as the South Dakota women’s golf team wrapped up competition at the Grand Canyon Spring Invitational on Wednesday. The tournament, held at Wigwam Golf Resort, had 120 competitors from 20 schools.
Lervick finished one stroke behind medalist winner Charlotte Jaengkit of tournament host Grand Canyon University (76-71-70=217). Lervick, a native of Chanhassen, Minn., entered the day in a tie for fifth at five-over-par and recorded five birdies in her first nine holes during the final round.
The finish is a career-best during spring play for Lervick. Her previous best during a spring tournament was her 15th-place finish at the Summit League Tournament last April.
Abby Dufrane was USD’s second-best performer, finishing in a tie for 61st at 23-over-par (77-86-76=239). Kaitlyn Krzyzanowski tied for 86th at 29-over (83-81-81-245), Kylie Gaughenbaugh tied for 99th at 37-over (88-80-85=253) and Janice Baumberger tied for 106th at 45-over (87-89-85=261) to round out USD’s scorers. Jordan Rearick competed individually and finished 113th at 50-over (89-90-87=266).
In the team standings, South Dakota finished 16th with a three day score of 954. UC Riverside won the team title with a score of 895 while Grand Canyon finished second with a score of 903.
The Coyote women will next compete at the Southern Utah Thunderbird Invitational on March 12-13.
