March 17, 2015VERMILLION, S.D.--The South Dakota track and field program will host four annual high school track and field meets during the next week in the DakotaDome. The meets include the Bob Prince Invitational, the Norm Herren meet and the Dan Lennon Invitational.
The high school track meets kick off with the Bob Prince Invitational at 4 p.m. today. Next up is the Norm Herren meet at 10 a.m. Saturday. The high school meets will conclude with the prestigious Dan Lennon Invitational featuring Class A competition on Monday, March 23, and Class B competition on Tuesday, March 24. The Dan Lennon meet is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. each day.

Mahon to receive Dan Lennon Award
South Dakota track and field will also present the 2015 Dan Lennon Award to Mike Mahon at the Dan Lennon Invitational. As the 26th recipient of the award, Mahon will be recognized on March 23 at 3:30 p.m.
Mahon has an extensive background in media relations working at the NCAA Championships, USA and World Championships in addition to the Olympics.
His career started at his alma mater, the University of South Dakota, where he served as the sports information director from 1977-88. He helped organize the inaugural Dan Lennon Invitational held in 1979 and served as media coordinator for the 1988 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at the DakotaDome. He then spent 22 years working at Drake University before retiring in December of 2010.
Mahon worked as the press officer for the U.S. track and field team at three Olympic games, served as the U.S. Olympic Committee press officer at four Olympic Festivals and at four Pan American Games. He also worked at a myriad of NCAA Championships including 27 basketball tournaments, numerous track and field championships and three cross country championships.
In 1995, Mahon was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame and received the 25-year CoSIDA Distinguished Service Award in 2003. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award by CoSIDA in 2012. Mahon was inducted into the South Dakota Coyote Sports Hall of Fame as a special contributor in 2009.
Mahon currently resides in West Des Moines, Iowa.
