VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's soccer head coach
Mandy Green is pleased to announce the additions of Julie Teslow and Kellee Willer.
"We could not be more excited to have Julie and Kellee join our team," said Green. "They are both accomplished club and high school players, 4.0 students, great people, and are the younger sisters of two Coyote alum. We believe they each will have an immediate impact at midfield, filling voids left by our graduating senior class. They bring high soccer IQ's, incredible work rates, and much needed height to our midfield."
Both players are younger siblings of Coyote soccer alumnae. Teslow's older sister, Jenny Teslow, is the program's sixth-leading scorer with 46 career goals. Willer is the sister of 2015 USD graduate and former midfielder Kylee Willer.
A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Teslow will graduate from Lincoln High School a semester early to enroll at USD this spring. Teslow's a three-time South Dakota High School Activities Association all-state honoree for the Patriots at midfield. She was named to the SDHSAA Elite Eleven following her junior and senior seasons. Teslow was also named the 2014 SDHSAA Player of the Championship Match. Competing for the Dakota Alliance Soccer Club, Teslow was the 2013 South Dakota State Cup Tournament MVP. A multi-sport athlete, Teslow also placed in the top-eight at the South Dakota state track and field meet in 2013. She placed in the top-20 for her floor routine at the South Dakota state gymnastics meet. Teslow was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish NHS, Chemistry NHS, and Math NHS. Teslow plans to major in business at South Dakota.
"Julie is a versatile player who can play at several different positions," said Green. "She's consistent, calm and poised on the ball. She has the ability to see the field and make plays. Her physicality will also help on the defensive side of the ball."
A midfielder hailing from Fort Collins, Colo., Willer transfers to South Dakota after redshirting her freshman season at the University of Arkansas. Willer earned all-conference honors her senior season for the Sabercats. She also collected academic all-state honors. Playing for the Fort Collins Aresenal club team, Willer was the team captain and 2014 State Cup MVP. Willer was also an all-league basketball player for the Sabercats. Willer plans to major in special education at South Dakota.
"Kellee is a tough and tenacious midfielder," said Green. "She has good size, athleticism, and reads the game well. She's quite crafty with the ball at her feet, helping create dangerous attacking opportunities."
Teslow and Willer join the team for spring training and are both eligible for the fall of 2016.
