VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota senior Miles Bergner (Longmont, Colo.) is the first-team punter on the 2016 STATS FCS All-America Team announced Tuesday. Bergner is one of seven first-team picks from the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the most of any other conference. STATS selected three teams comprised of 100 players. Bergner is one of three punters chosen.

Bergner is the FCS' leading punter with a program-record 47.5-yard average, nearly two yards better than any of his peers. His four-year career average of 42.8 on 262 boots is also a South Dakota record. Bergner's punts netted 41.3 yards this season, the second-best average in the nation.

Bergner punted 68 times for 3,230 yards in 2016. He pinned 17 punts inside the 20-yard line and had 27 kicks of 50 yards or more with a long of 65. Bergner also made 14 of 18 field goals, all 41 extra-point tries, and had 21 touchbacks on 59 kickoffs. He is the Coyotes' all-time leading scorer with 276 points.
