Coyotes set for first meeting with TCU

MBB at TCU

A grueling schedule to begin the 2017-18 season concludes Wednesday as South Dakota plays at TCU, a team receiving votes in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Game
South Dakota concludes its third game in five days with a trip to TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. The contest is the first meeting between the two schools and the Coyotes 28th contest with a Big 12 opponent.

The Horned Frogs
TCU is 2-0 on the season, having defeated Louisiana-Monroe and Tennessee Tech. The Horned Frogs return all five starters and the top-six scorers from last year's squad that won the National Invitational Tournament. Coming into the 2017-18 season, Vladimir Brodziansky was named a preseason all-Big 12 honoree while TCU was tabbed third in the preseason poll. Head coach Jamie Dixon is a former Naismith National Coach of the Year and is in his second year at the helm of his alma mater.

The Coyotes
South Dakota is 2-0 for the second-straight season after a come-from-behind victory at Bowling Green. Matt Mooney tallied 26 points in the victory, making his final seven shots to push USD to victory. In the contest Tyler Hagedorn totaled 15 points on a career-best five-made field goals. Triston Simpson and Mooney each had seven assists in the contest, the first time since 2006 that two Coyotes had seven or more assists in a game.

The Series
Wednesday's contest is the first meeting between the schools. TCU has faced just six Summit League opponents, holding a 2-4 record while the Coyotes are 2-25 all-time against current Big 12 opponents. However, in the Division I era, South Dakota is 0-5 against Big 12 teams.

One Last Thing
Four Coyotes are making a homecoming to Texas. Sophomore Brandon Armstrong along with freshmen Walter Prevost, Stanley Umude and Josh Williams are from Texas. Armstrong and Umude are from San Antonio while Prevost and Williams call Houston home.
