About the Cancun Challenge
  • In its 13th year, the Cancun Challenge will be played at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, which sits along the Caribbean coastline on the eastern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula.
  • The tournament features four teams from the Mayan Division (Arizona State, Columbia, Green Bay, Mississippi State) and six teams from the Riviera Division (Indiana State, Marquette, Montana, Oklahoma State, South Dakota and Tennessee). The four teams in the Mayan Division will compete in a three-game round robin while the six teams in the Riviera Division will play two or three games apiece during the event.
  • This marks South Dakota's first appearance at the Cancun Challenge. It is also the program's first tournament abroad in program history. The Coyotes took an international tour in the summer of 2016 to Australia.

A New Series
  • South Dakota has never met any of the three Cancun Challenge opponents in program history.

Scouting the Coyotes
  • South Dakota posted a 23-9 record in the program's first year under head coach Dawn Plitzuweit. The team reached the second round of the WNIT.
  • South Dakota returns three starters from a season ago in junior guard Allison Arens, junior guard Jaycee Bradley and sophomore guard Ciara Duffy. Arens and Duffy were pre-season all-Summit League picks. Bradley was named to the preseason Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list for the best shooting guard in the nation.
  • Arens is the reigning Summit League Player of the Week after averaging 16 points, 7.5 rebounds and a pair of steals in leading the Coyotes to a pair of wins over Creighton and Wichita State.
  • Senior center Kate Liveringhouse ranks fifth in the Summit with 14.3 points per game this season. She finished 7-of-13 (.538) in her first two games.

Scouting the Cowgirls
  • Oklahoma State is off to a 4-0 start with wins over Incarnate Word, Wichita State, UT Rio Grande Valley and Northwestern State. This tournament will be the program's first games away from Stillwater this season.
  • Senior guard Loryn Goodwin leads Oklahoma State in scoring this season with 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
  • Senior center Kaylee Jensen was a preseason all-Big 12 pick. She's averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting at a 60 percent clip from the field. She was also named to the watch list for the Lisa Leslie Award honoring the nation's top post player.
  • Oklahoma State fell to Abilene Christian in the first round of the WNIT last season, 66-56.

Scouting the Sycamores
  • Indiana State led the Missouri Valley defensively last season by only allowing 57.7 points per contest.
  • The Sycamores lose just one player to graduation and return leading scorers Taia Ashley and Wendi Bibbins. Ashley led the team with 12.1 points per game while Bibbins averaged 10.2 points and 8.3 boards per game last year.
  • Indiana State is off to an 0-3 start, including an 86-57 loss to former Summit League foe IUPUI.

Scouting the Lady Vols
  • The winningest program in women's college basketball, Tennessee has captured eight NCAA Championships in program history.
  • #12/#14 Tennessee is off to a 3-0 start with wins over East Tennessee State, James Madison and Wichita State. This tournament will be the program's first games away from Knoxville this season.
  • The Lady Vols exited the NCAA Tournament in the second round last season, falling to Louisville 75-64. Tennessee posted a 20-12 overall record in 2016-17.
  • Seniors Mercedes Russell and Jaime Nared are preseason all-SEC picks and are on the John R. Wooden Watch List. Russell is leading the team with 17 points and nine rebounds a game while Nared is averaging a double-double with 15.7 points and 10.3 boards per game.
  • Tennessee boasts the nation's No. 1 recruiting class according to espnW HoopGurlz and ProspectsNation. The class includes Rennia Davis, Anastasia Hayes,  Kasiyahna Kushkituah and Evina Westbrook.
  • South Dakota will take its first crack at a ranked team since the 2014 NCAA Tournament where USD faced #6 Stanford. Tennessee enters the week ranked No. 12 in the Associated Press poll.
