South Dakota heads to Western Illinois for its third game in a six-day span. The Coyotes and the Leathernecks face off at 7 p.m. Thursday in Western Hall in Macomb, Ill.
The Game
It's the league's leading offense in Western Illinois to the league's second-best defense in South Dakota facing off. The Coyotes have forced opponents to turn it over 22 times for four-straight games, but the Leathernecks average the fewest turnovers per game this season at 13.5.
The Coyotes
South Dakota (10-5, 2-0 Summit) enters the game on a four-game winning streak and posted the program's 750th victory on Tuesday. Junior guard
Jaycee Bradley was nearly perfect in the game, making 8-of-9 from the field with five outside the arc. Junior
Allison Arens added 19 points, while sophomore guard
Ciara Duffy and senior center
Kate Liveringhouse also finished in double figures. The Coyotes will want to find their way to the free-throw line, as they are fourth in the nation for free-throw percentage (81.0).
The Leathernecks
Western Illinois (11-4, 1-0 Summit) is the defending Summit League regular season and tournament champion. In nonconference action this season, their biggest win came at #18 Stanford in December. The Leathernecks love to push the pace in transition and average a league high 84 points a game. Reigning Summit Player of the Year Emily Clemens runs the offense, averaging 17.2 points and 8.5 assists while shooting guards Taylor Higginbotham and Morgan Blumer average 17.9 and 14.7 points a piece, respectively.
The Series
Western Illinois swept South Dakota last season for the first time since the Coyotes joined the Summit League, en route to winning the league title. South Dakota leads the all-time series 10-3 with last season's loss in Macomb the Coyotes' first loss inside Western Hall.
One Last Thing
South Dakota kicked off league play with a pair of wins for the second-straight season. A win on Thursday would make the Coyotes 3-0 in Summit action for the first time in seven years in the league.
