STOCKTON, Calif. – The South Dakota golf team wrapped up the Visit Stockton Invitational Saturday with
Matt Tolan shooting his lowest round of the tournament at 3-under-par. With the junior shooting under par, all six Coyotes participating in the event shot under par in at least one round at Stockton Country and Golf Club.

"This week's event was a great one to finish on," head coach
John Vining said. "We are disappointed in our finish in the field but have many positives to build on. We had six different guys shoot under par in one of the three rounds. It will only be a matter of time until it clicks and it happens in the same round."

Tolan shot rounds of 82-74-68 as part of his 224 strokes to place tied for 78
th. He had four birdies in the final round to go with 13 pars and one bogey.

Junior
Scott Fudenberg and freshman
Ben Hicks each tied for 47
th with 217 strokes to finish 4-over-par. Hicks competed in the event as an individual and shot a season-low 66 in the opening round before finishing with 72 and 79 strokes over the final two rounds.

Senior
Tommy Vining placed in a tie for the 53
rd position with 218 strokes. He finished third in the field with a stroke average of 2.83 on par three holes.

Sophomore
Tate Arends tied for 70
th with rounds of 70-79-73 for 222 strokes. Sophomore
Jacob Michel tied with Tolan in the 78
th position with 224 strokes.

Nevada had a come-from-behind victory to capture the team title with 814 (-22) strokes. South Dakota finished with 865 strokes, just four shots from ninth place. Peter Kuest of BYU won individual medalist honors with 197 strokes at 7-under-par.

The event, hosted by Pacific, is the final in the five-event fall for USD before picking back up in the spring. The first of six spring events begins with the Banyan Creek Collegiate in Palm City, Florida. The event runs Feb. 10-12, 2019.

"We learned a lot this fall and have some stuff we can work on this winter,"
John Vining added. "I am excited to get to work this offseason. The best is yet to come for this group."
