The Jayhawks
To talk about Kansas, one could talk about the 15 appearances in the Final Four, the 14-straight Big 12 Championships or even the 2,257 program wins. However, for this game, it is worth noting that as the No. 1 team in the country, Kansas owns a 47-3 record inside Allen Fieldhouse and is a perfect 21-0 under Hall of Fame head coach Bill Self in those games.
Kansas is 9-0 this season and is in its second stint as the No. 1 ranked team. In their last game, the Jayhawks topped No. 17 Villanova 74-71. Lagerald Vick tallied a game-high 29 points and Dedric Lawson added 28 points and 12 rebounds in the effort.
For the season, Lawson leads Kansas at 20.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He is joined in double-digit scoring by Vick at 17.7 points and Devon Dotson at 11.0 points. Udoka Azubuike averages 12.9 points per game, but has missed a pair of games with an ankle injury and not expected back until the Big 12 season.
The Coyotes
South Dakota is coming off a 68-63 victory at Colorado State behind 15 points from
Stanley Umude. He was joined in double-digit scoring by
Tyler Peterson with 12 points and 10 points each from
Cody Kelley and
Trey Burch-Manning.
Kelley had a solid all-around game adding eight rebounds and seven assists which he parlayed into the Summit League Player of the Week. Kelley is the first Coyote this season to earn the weekly honor, which came after averaging 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4.5 assists over two games.
Sporting a 6-5 record, South Dakota has consecutive wins for the second time this season after topping Bellevue 68-63 last Wednesday. The Coyotes are led by Burch-Manning with 13.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with 20 steals.
Triston Simpson adds 12.3 points while Peterson drops 12.1 points per game. Since returning from a foot injury, Kelley totals 10.3 points per game, which has been a three-game period.
The Series
The meeting is the first between the two programs. South Dakota faced a Big 12 program earlier this season, falling to Baylor, 63-57, after leading for over 30 minutes in the contest. Kansas holds an 18-5 record against Summit League programs.

South Dakota returns home to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center on Friday with a 7 p.m. contest with Southern Miss. Tickets can be purchased by visiting GoYotes.com/tickets or by calling the USD Ticket Office at 605-677-5959.
