The Game
The league's top-two defenses meet again, this time on the Coyotes' home court. In the previous matchup, Oral Roberts held South Dakota to 20 percent from the floor in the first quarter for a tough start. The Coyotes rebounded in the second half, making 8-of-10 from the floor in the third quarter and 9-of-12 in the fourth. Both teams shot over 50 percent in the last meeting with South Dakota coming out as the ultimate victor with a score of 73-68. Oral Roberts holds opponents to a league-best 32 percent from beyond the arc. The Coyotes demonstrated Wednesday that even with 5-of-22 shooting outside the arc, they can still win games inside as they topped Omaha 72-50.
The Coyotes
South Dakota (22-5, 12-0 Summit) can clinch at least a share of the Summit League regular season title with a win on Saturday. A win also sets a new Division I-era best with a 17-straight victories for USD. The trio of sophomore guard
Ciara Duffy, junior guard
Allison Arens and junior guard
Jaycee Bradley continue to pace the Coyote offense with all three averaging above 10 points per game. This year's team features a well-rounded offense with nine different players that have led the team in scoring for a game. Liveringhouse paced the Coyotes on Wednesday with 14 points.
The Golden Eagles
Oral Roberts (15-11, 6-6 Summit) is locked into the 4/5 game on Sunday of the Summit League Tournament. With Maria Martianez and Jordan Gilbert out of the starting lineup, senior forward Faith Ihim has had to help carry the load. She scored 31 points on 29 field-goal attempts last week at South Dakota State. Ihim leads the team with 14.8 points per game this season, while Martianez was averaging 12.3 through 24 of 26 games. Freshman guard Maya Mayberry adds 10.9 points per game. Oral Roberts ranks second in the Summit League behind USD with a field-goal percentage of 45.4 percent, which also ranks 25th in the nation.
The Series
South Dakota has won five-straight against the Golden Eagles. The Coyotes overcame an 11-point deficit to defeat the Golden Eagles 73-68 in Tulsa earlier this year. It was the only game USD has trailed by double digits in Summit play this year. Arens scored 18 points in that game to lead four players in double digits.
One Last Thing
The Yotes finished undefeated (7-0) on the road in Summit League play for the first time in program history. Should the Coyotes wrap up the season with a pair of wins over Oral Roberts and South Dakota State, they would become the first team to go undefeated in Summit League play since 1993-94. Back then, Northern Illinois ran through what was then known as the Mid-Continent Conference for an 18-0 perfect season.
