USD to host Dan Lennon; Meile, Mutchelknaus receive 2018 Dan Lennon Award

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota hosts the prestigious Dan Lennon Invitational on the Hillenbrand Track inside the DakotaDome March 19-20.
 
The Dan Lennon is split between Class A on Monday, March 19, and Class B competition on Tuesday, March 20. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. both days.

Meile, Mutchelknaus to receive 2018 Dan Lennon Award

The Dan Lennon Award will be presented during the meet each day between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Mark Meile will be honored on Monday with Brent Mutchelknaus honored on Tuesday.

Mark Meile
A native of Hartford, South Dakota, Meile has spent 41 years in education with the last 27 years in Sioux Falls. He currently the Director of Athletics and Physical Education for Sioux Falls Schools. Meile also taught and coached at Viborg, Bridgewater, Salem and Brandon Valley.
 
In addition, Meile serves as the meet director for the Howard Wood Dakota Relays and the South Dakota high school track and field championships when its held in Sioux Falls.
 
Meile graduated from USD-Springfield before going on to receive his master's degree at South Dakota State.
 
Brent Mutchelknaus
Originally of Freeman, South Dakota, Mutchelknaus has spent the past 36 years teaching and coaching. After graduating from Yankton College, his career began in the fall of 1982 at McIntosh High School in South Dakota.
 
After a brief stop at Silver Creek High School in Nebraska, Mutchelknaus returned to South Dakota as an English teacher and coach at Irene High School. Throughout his 35-year career as the head football coach at Irene-Wakonda, Mutchelknaus has reached the playoffs 25 times with a pair of state championships in 1991 and 1993. He has also coached 18 Tri-Valley Conference championship track and field teams and 18 individual state champions.
 
Mutchelknaus has two children, Breann and Brock.
