Madison Jurgens and
Anne Rasmussen have been named to the 2019 Summit Volleyball Academic All-League team as announced on Tuesday.
This marks the fifth straight season that a Coyote has earned league recognition on the six-member Academic squad while Jurgens and Rasmussen are each repeat selections.
Jurgens, an Odell, Nebraska, native, has a 3.95 GPA and is a biology major. The sophomore setter ranked first in the Summit League and ninth nationally in assists per set (11.77) and fourth in service aces per set (0.33). The first-team All-Summit League selection has season totals of 1,412 assists, 75 kills, 44 service aces and 321 digs. Her 1,412 assists this season are currently fourth-most in a single season.
Rasmussen, the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year, paced the league at 4.99 digs per set. The Oak Creek, Wisconsin, native carries a 3.94 GPA as an exercise science major. The All-Summit League First Team selection has recorded 599 digs, a total that ranks fifth on the Coyotes single season charts. The libero also contributed 114 assists and 27 service aces to a South Dakota team that takes a 31-2 record into Tuesday's National Invitational Volleyball Championship title match against Georgia Tech.
"Anne and Madison are the true definition of a student-athlete," coach
Leanne Williamson said. "They hold themselves to high standards on the court and in the classroom and set an example for others to follow.
"I couldn't be more proud of everything that they have accomplished."
To be eligible for the academic all-league team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA above 3.30, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
