South Dakota sophomore golfer
Ian Johnston and STATS Perform FCS Senior Editor Craig Haley are guests on this week's "YoteCast," the official podcast of Coyote athletics hosted by John Thayer.
Â
Johnston was recently honored for Outstanding Philanthropic Youth by the Iowa Association of Fundraising Professionals for National Philanthropy Day.
Â
Johnston's brother, Seth, passed away four years ago at the young age of 23 after struggling with addiction. Their father, Jeff, has written a book "
This One's For You: An Inspirational Journey Through Addiction, Death, and Meaning."
Â
In addition to the family's promotion of the book, Johnston talks golf including playing a round with Zach Johnson and also competing in a collegiate event named in honor of the PGA professional.
Â
Haley is a national writer for both STATS and Athlon Sports. He also conducts a weekly FCS top-25 poll with sports information directors and members of the media. Haley joins the show to discuss the journey of FCS football from this past summer to the fall and now to a first-ever spring season. He offers thoughts on the playoffs, the national interest in a spring FCS season and one particular pitfall in conducting it then for the best in the sport.
Â
The episode starts as it typically does with athletic director
David Herbster. He highlights football practice, updated testing protocols and hints at his longevity in reflecting on the recently announced USD athletic hall of fame class.
