ATLANTA—South Dakota senior guard Madison McKeever has been selected as a member of the 2020 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program presented by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association in partnership with WeCOACH.
 
McKeever is one of 62 senior women's basketball players selected to the WBCA program. She will participate in the three-day workshop held April 2-4 in conjunction with the WBCA Convention and the NCAA Women's Final Four in New Orleans, Louisiana.
 
The objectives of the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program are to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
 
"I am deeply thrilled and excited to be selected to the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program because it will give me the opportunity to pursue my dream of coaching within the ranks of college basketball and continue to be a part of a game that has given me tremendous opportunities as a player and as a person," said McKeever. "Basketball influenced my life at a very young age and has continued to shape me as a person and role model to other female athletes. This honor will allow me to continue to be a part of a game I love and will also allow me to follow my dream of coaching basketball at the college level!"
 
All 62 attendees are recent NCAA women's basketball graduates who are selected based on their academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, their professional resume and a written recommendation by their head coach.
 
"We are thrilled that Madison was selected by the WBCA for this outstanding program!" said USD head coach Dawn Plitzuweit. "She is a very driven young lady who will make the most of this opportunity to learn and to network with coaches in this profession."
 
McKeever's started at the point for the Coyotes the last three seasons. She helped the Coyotes reach the NCAA Tournament in 2019 and run the table in the Summit League in 2018. She has more than 1,000 points, 300 rebounds, 250 assists and 200 steals in Coyote career.
 
This marks the 18th year of the program. McKeever joins Coyote alumna Lisa Loeffler as USD participants in the workshop.
