SIOUX FALLS – A school record along with all-conference performances in three relays highlighted the South Dakota efforts on the opening day of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships presented by the U.S. Air Forces Special Operations.
The Coyote men posted a school-record 1:29.54 in the 200 medley relay, one of three runner-up performances at the Midco Aquatic Center on Wednesday evening.
The foursome of
Brady Torborg,
Jake Leichner,
Elbert Chuang and
Zachary Kopp bested the old school mark of 1:30.32 from last year's Summit League Championships.
The women's 200 medley relay quartet of
Sabrina Sabadeanu,
Meghan Atwell,
Madilyn Sindelar and
Jordyn Schnell posted a second-place finish in 1:43.56, just off the school record of 1:43.10, to earn all-conference honors.
Also earning all-league honors on the opening day were the men's 800 free relay foursome of
Charlie Bean,
Stephen Johnson,
Wyatt Thompson and
Jacob Won, who swam 6:43.80 to finish second.
The only other swim final on the opening day was the 800 free relay for women as the Coyotes posted a fourth-place finish in 7:38.34 from the team of
Kristen Quigley,
Isabel Fairbanks,
Emily Johnson and
Maria Mattaini.
The men's three-meter diving competition was held on Wednesday as sophomore
Anthony Mudek posted a personal best of 295.20 to finish fourth and move up to 8
th on the all-time charts.
Seth O'Dea, a junior, had a personal best of 307.25 in the prelims, moving him up to 5
th all-time. O'Dea finished fifth in the finals with a score of 293.65.
Placing seventh was sophomore
William Johnston with a score of 272.60 after he had a personal best of 276.30 during the prelims.
Isaac Morris, a senior, competed for the first time this season and finished eighth with a score of 257.70.
Thursday's schedule includes five swimming finals and the women's 1-meter diving competition.
