SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Following an undefeated performance at the Summit League Championships, sophomore swimmer
Nick Rounds has been named the Summit League men's swimmer of the year, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
"As a coach, you appreciate athletes like Nick for the way they approach their work every day. His discipline, competitive mindset, and coachability have been instrumental not only to his individual success, but to our team's success as well," said head swimming and diving coach
Jason Mahowald. "This is a well-deserved honor, and we couldn't be more proud to see him recognized as Summit League Swimmer of the Year."
Rounds had a stellar Summit League Championships, winning three individual titles and finished first in every race he competed in. He won the 50-yard freestyle (19.15), 100-yard freestyle (42.98), and 100-yard backstroke (45.21), while posting NCAA standard times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
The Des Moines, Iowa native became the first Yote in the Division I era to punch a ticket to the Division I Championships in both the 50- and 100-freestyles. He took top-40 finishes in the preliminaries of both races at the national championships in Georgia.
The sophomore holds four school records in the pool with the 50-freestyle (19.15) and 100-freestyle (42.98) being set in 2026.
Rounds becomes the second male Coyote to win Summit League Swimmer of the Year. He joins Zack Kopp who won the honor for the 2020-21 season with five individual titles at the league championship meet.
