Coyotes have two top-10 finishes at NIC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – South Dakota produced a pair of top 10 finishes Thursday on day one of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championships hosted by Cleveland State University.
 
Brady Torborg, a sophomore, swam to an eighth-place finish in the 50 back in 23.29. Torborg qualified for the finals with a 22.93 time in the morning prelims.
 
The Coyote men's foursome of Zachary Kopp, Cooper Fuchs, Elbert Chuang and Jake Leichner finished ninth in the 200 free relay in 1:22.07.
 
Additionally, three individuals posted top 20 finishes during the meet, which concluded after one day as day's two and three were canceled along with many other evets across the nation due to health and public safety concerns.
 
Jacob Won, a sophomore, was 19th in the 500 free in 4:38.17 while classmate Wyatt Thompson was 20th in 4:49.59. Kopp, a freshman, finished 20th in the 50 free in 20.66.
 
The Coyote men's team finished in 12th place with 65 points while the women's team had 11 points and a 24th-place finish.
 
Madilyn Sindelar competed in the 50 fly (26.26) and 50 free (24.99) on day one while Meghan Atwell competed in the 50 breast (30.44) and 50 free (24.52). Competing in single individuals on day one for the women's team were Cassie Ketterling in the 50 fly (26.44), Isabelle Davenport in the 50 breast (30.57), Isabel Fairbanks in the 50 breast (30.93) and Jordyn Schnell in the 50 free (23.88).
 
The women's quartet of Lucie Anderson, Davenport, Ketterling and Schnell finished 21st in the 400 medley relay in 3:56.12 while the foursome of Schnell, Sindelar, Sabrina Sabadeanu and Atwell was 22nd in the 200 free relay in 1:37.26.
 
For the men's team, individually, Won competed in the 50 fly (22.83) along with Chuang (22.85). Cooper Fuchs swam in the 50 breast prelims (27.71) while a trio of Coyotes competed in the 50 free prelims, Torborg (21.09), Charlie Bean (21.09) and Thompson (21.62).
 
The foursome of Torborg, Leichner, Won and Bean posted a 12th-place finish in the 400 medley relay in 3:24.08.
 
This concludes the swimming and diving team's competitions for the 2019-20 school year.
