Yotes Hit the Road for Kansas City

Vermillion, S.D. – The South Dakota Coyotes travel to Kansas City for back-to-back games at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday inside the Swinney Center in Kansas City, Mo.

  • The Yotes are 4-6 on the season and 2-0 in the Summit League after a conference opening sweep of Denver. The Yotes are 2-0 to begin conference play for the second time in four seasons.
  • USD is riding a three-game win streak and will look to stay undefeated in conference play and extend its win streak.
  • Stanley Umude leads the Summit League in points per game with 22.3 and ranks 10th in the nation. He ranks fifth in rebounds with 7.4 rpg. He also has the most made FG's in a Division I game this season with 17 against SDSU.
  • Umude nabbed the Summit League's December Male Athlete of the Month honor. The senior averaged 24.2 points on 52.3 percent shooting from the field (56-107) in the month of December.
  • USD will host Denver, Omaha, Oral Roberts and NDSU. They will travel to Kansas City, Western Illinois, SDSU and UND this conference season. Each weekend the Yotes will play the opponent twice at the same location.
  • A.J. Plitzuweit is second in the Summit League with 4.0 assists per game. He also sits seventh in the League with 15.8 points per game after recording 50 points in the Denver series.
  • USD held the Pioneers to 32 percent from the field (35-107) in the two games. Xavier Fuller and Umude held Jase Townsend to 15 total points in the two games after he came in averaging 20 points per game. 
 
ABOUT KANSAS CITY
The Roos are 5-6 on the season and come into the contest splitting a pair of games in their Summit League opener at North Dakota.
 
Kansas City has yet to lose this season at home with a win over Culver-Stockton and two wins over Kansas Christian College. The Roos are averaging 76.9 points on 54 percent shooting from the field and 37.6 percent from deep. KC leads the Summit League in both field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense. They also rank fourth in FG percentage and 42nd in field goal percentage defense. They rank 19th in the nation and first in the League in steals with 9.5 per game.

Josiah Allick leads the Roos with 15.5 points per game on 60.3 percent shooting from the field in 11 games this season. He hauls in 6.8 rebounds as well. Brandon McKissic ranks second with 15.5 points in eight games and Franck Kamgain averages 8.1 points in 11 games.

    This is the 10th meeting between the two schools with Kansas City holding a 5-4 record all-time.
    The Yotes are 2-2 in Kansas City and have lost the lost two games against the Roos.
    The series started in the 2011-12 season with USD picking up the 76-57 win at Kansas City.
