The South Dakota Coyotes (10-8, 7-2) plays the second of two meetings in the South Dakota Showdown Series against rival South Dakota State (12-8, 4-5) at 7 p.m. on Friday in Brookings.
THE COYOTES
The Coyotes sit in third place in the Summit League through the first rotation in league play, just a half game behind Denver and Omaha.
Junior outside hitter
Elizabeth Juhnke leads the offensive attack at 3.45 kills per set while she adds 2.96 digs per set. The returning first-team All-Summit League performer is at 3.60 kills per set and 3.00 digs per set in league play. Juhnke has reached double figures in kills in 16 of 17 matches and has registered nine double-doubles on the season. She has also posted a pair of 20-20 matches with more than 20 kills and 20 digs in a single match.
Madison Harms, a junior middle blocker, ranks second on the team at 2.48 kills per set.
Sami Slaughter, a fifth-year senior, is averaging 2.46 kills per set while
Aimee Adams, a junior, and
Maddie Wiedenfeld, a senior, chip in 1.88 and 1.62 kills per set, respectively for the South Dakota offense.
The offense is directed by senior setter
Madison Jurgens, who ranks third overall in Summit League at 9.80 assists per set. She ranks fourth in league play at 10.34 assists per set.
The Coyotes boast a .283 team hitting percentage in the nine Summit League matches, tops in conference play, while its 13.17 kills per set average in league play ranks fifth.
Defensively, senior libero
Lolo Weideman ranks fourth in the Summit League at 4.49 digs per set.
Harms averages 1.26 blocks per set, second in the league, and Wiedenfeld 0.83 for a team that leads the Summit League at 2.39 per set.
LAST TIME OUT
South Dakota dropped a five-set match to Denver despite taking the first two sets. Juhnke had 10 kills while Adams and Slaughter added nine apiece. Harms chipped in eight kills, two solo and five block assists.
Jurgens contributed 31 assists, nine digs and three service aces.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
South Dakota State is sixth in the Summit League and has dropped two straight, losing matches at Denver and at Omaha.
Crystal Burk ranks second in the Summit League at 3.74 kills per set for a Jacks offense that has a .233 team hitting percentage, third-best in the Summit League.
Chloe Stitt ranks eighth in the Summit at 2.88 while Sydney Andrews is hitting .332 on the season, good for sixth in the Summit.
Carly Wedel averages 9.74 assists per set and recently has been splitting time with Jasmine Weidemann, who is at 9.08 assists per set in her 13 sets played.
Tatum Pickar, the team's libero, averages 3.94 digs per set while Burk is at 2.38 and Faith Seawert 2.33.
LAST TIME OUT
South Dakota was swept in a road match at Omaha and had a negative .041 hitting percentage in the contest. Stitt, Burk and Elyse Winter had five kills apiece.
THE SERIES
South Dakota leads the Division I era series 20-2 and has won 12 straight meetings, 10 of them by three-set sweeps.
