Fifth-year senior softball player
Camille Fowler, head women's golf coach
Brett Bennett and defensive coordinator
Travis Johansen from the football staff are featured in this week's YoteCast, the official podcast of South Dakota athletics hosted by John Thayer.
Â
Fowler talks about the anticipation of returning to competition, why she decided to come back for one more year and what she hopes to accomplish. She also discusses how a relatives' cancer diagnosis inspired her to train to be a nurse, how that training was impacted by COVID-19 and her message to others regarding the pandemic.
Â
Bennett previews his team's debut in Florida next week. He talks about how the team prepares for a season that starts in February and how the DakotaDome and a new chipping and putting facility have aided that preparation. Plus, how does he and his team study a course before an event, and what role does he play when his team in on the course competing?
Â
Johansen is set to begin his second season with the Coyotes, and by all accounts, it is set up to be a good one. He talks with Thayer about the focus for year two, how not even the freshmen feel "young" when your season starts in the spring, and offers a position-by-position preview of his unit. In addition, how did his team react to the Western Illinois cancellation and how did they respond at practice the next day?
Â
But we start as we always do with Athletic Director
David Herbster. He addresses the news surrounding the postponement of the first football game, how Coyote volleyball fans have grown in concert with the rise of the program, and his thoughts on last weekend's USD-SDSU basketball series.
