VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota women's golf team will open the 2021 spring campaign this coming Monday and Tuesday as the Coyotes compete in the Amelia Island Collegiate Feb. 15-16. The Yotes will play at the 6,209 yard, par 72 Amelia National Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
The field includes Charleston Southern, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Presbyterian, Seminole State, South Dakota, Winthrop and Wofford.
Last season, Campbell won the team championship with a total score of 878 and the individual champion was Sydney Shrader from North Florida with a three-round score of 212.
The Yotes will feature a lineup that includes junior
Laerke Jensen, freshmen
Akari Hayashi and
Danica Badura and juniors Liz Duncan and
Julia Hall.
USD will compete in the Amelia Island Collegiate for the first time. This will be the Yotes first tournament in 11 or so months dating back to last spring. The Yotes were picked fifth in the Summit League preseason poll back in January. Jensen was tabbed as a golfer to watch after competing in 18 rounds and averaging 78.89 strokes per round last season. The Yotes return seven golfers from a season ago and welcome in two freshmen.
The tournament tees off on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and will have rounds one and two completed. The final round on Tuesday will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
