VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota men's golf program will compete in 10 tournaments during the regular season with the annual Summit League Championships bringing its total to 11 tournaments during the 2021-22 season head coach
John Vining announced on Tuesday.
The men will compete in five tournaments in the fall and six in the spring. The Summit League Championships are scheduled for May 1-3 in Newton, Kansas.
The Coyotes will open the season in Manhattan, Kansas, at the Kansas State Wildcat Invitational on September 13-14. The next week the Yotes hit the road out west to take part in the Ram Masters (Sept. 20-21) in Fort Collins, Colorado. USD has competed in the Rams Masters every year but one since Vining took over as head coach.
Closing out September, the men will compete in the Derek Dolenc Invitational (Sept. 27-28) in St. Louis, Missouri, for the first time in Vining's head coaching career and the first time since the 2016-17 season. Next up on the schedule is the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate (Oct. 11-12) in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the Yotes last competed in this tournament in 2019-20 when they placed fourth.
Finishing up the fall season, South Dakota will travel to the east coast to compete in the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate (Oct. 24-26) in Powells Point, North Carolina. This will be the first of three straight three-day tournaments for the Yotes.
In the spring, South Dakota continues competition at the Advance Partner's Intercollegiate (Feb. 13-15) hosted by UNC Greensboro in Palm City, Florida. USD will conclude its streak of three-day tournaments at the Loyola Intercollegiate (Feb. 20-22) in Goodyear, Arizona.
Closing out the spring season South Dakota will compete in the South Dakota State Spring Invite (March 11-12) in Boulder City, Nevada, the Missouri State Invitational (March 21-22) in Springfield, Missouri and the Stampede at the Creek (April 11-12) in Omaha, Nebraska.
USD will then compete in the Summit League Championships in Newton, Kansas on May 1-3. Last season, the Yotes tied for fifth place with a score of 892.
South Dakota loses two seniors to graduation but return five along with three newcomers this season.
