USD improves to No. 14 in the Midwest

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota women's cross country moved up one spot to No. 14 in the Midwest region in the latest USTFCCCA regional rankings.

It was a pack mentality for the Coyotes last Saturday at the Woody Greeno Invitational as the scoring five finished with 26 seconds of one another. It was the second-best spread amongst the competitive field.

South Dakota took fourth place in the team race at Woody Greeno to Iowa (No. 9 in Midwest), Nebraska (No. 10 in Midwest) and Northern Colorado (NR in Mountain). The Coyotes beat Wichita State in the team race, which fell five spots to No. 15 in the Midwest this week.

The Coyote scoring five this week included Ella Byers, McKenna Herrmann, Abrielle Jirele, Helen Gould and Melanie Pankow. USD was without its top-two finishers from the season opener with Abby Ripperda sitting out the race and Maddie Lavin traveling with the triathlon team to Arizona State.

This marks South Dakota's second-straight week in the USTFCCCA regional rankings.

The Coyotes are back in action Friday at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
