South Dakota Hosts Roos in Friday Afternoon Duel

The Game
The South Dakota women's soccer team prepares for the final home games of the season this weekend at First Bank & Trust Complex. The weekend kicks off on Friday against the Roos of Kansas City at 4 p.m. The game will be live streamed on goyotes.com with live stats available to follow along as well.

The Series
Though the Roos own the all-time series 7-3-1, the Coyotes have won two straight against Kansas City. In those two wins, USD has outscored KC 6-0 with both games taking place in Kansas City, Missouri. This will be the Roos' first time back in Vermillion since the 2018 season.

The Coyotes
South Dakota earned two Summit League wins last weekend in come-from-behind fashion. The Coyotes were down 2-0 at Western Illinois and down 1-0 at St. Thomas. USD found a way to score late goals and won both games 3-2 and 2-1, respectively. Taylor Cotter and Ashby Johnston scored the game-winning goals in last weekend's games.

Joana Zanin has taken over the team-lead in goal-scoring after converting a penalty kick against St. Thomas on Sunday. Zanin has four goals on the year and has added one assist. Cotter leads the team in assists (5) and points (11). Her five assists on the year are second-most in the Summit League.

The Roos
Kansas City is in its third season under head coach Jess Smith and comes to Vermillion with a 1-9-4 record and 0-3-2 in conference play. The Roos most recently earned a draw against North Dakota on Sunday with a late equalizing goal by Madison Page. Emma Wilson and Anna Jennings were named Summit League Players to Watch this season. Wilson is returning from a season-ending injury last season and is a two-time all-Summit selection. Jennings is a staple in the midfield, having started 35 of 36 games in her past two seasons and was one of five players to start all 19 contests last season. She is sixth in the conference in shots on goal this year with 14.

Offensively, Page and Lily Stedman lead the team as the only two goal scorers this season. Both Page and Stedman have four goals each in the 2022 season and are seven and eight, respectively, in the Summit goal leaders. Caijah Anderson and Lily Hollis tie for the team lead in assists with two each. Defensively, Mackenzie Caldwell and Riley Moore have shared time in the net for Kansas City this season. Caldwell has started nine games this season and had 45 saves this season and 13 goals allowed. Moore was in net for KC's lone win this season in a 1-0 shutout of Chicago State.

One Last Thing
South Dakota is currently fourth in the Summit League standings heading into the penultimate weekend of the season. The Coyotes are third in the league in both shots (129) and goals (22). The team is also fifth in total points (57) and saves (53).
