Coyotes Take on Tommies in St. Paul

The Game
South Dakota concludes the weekend road trip with a Sunday afternoon match in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Coyotes meet the St. Thomas Tommies at South Field at 1:00 p.m. Live Stats and a live video stream will be available for Sunday's game.

The Series
The Coyotes won the first ever meeting between these two programs last season in Vermillion. Tiannah Moore picked up a hat trick in that game as the Coyotes cruised to a 4-0 victory.

The Coyotes
USD picked up a much-needed win on Friday, battling back from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Western Illinois for its first conference win of the season. Haylee Phoenix opened up the scoring a few minutes before halftime before WIU took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the second half. The Coyotes score twice in an eight-minute span to overtake the lead and seal a conference victory on the road. Taylor Ravelo scored in the 70th minute to tie the game at two before Taylor Cotter netted the game-winning goal in the 78th minute. South Dakota is now 1-1-2 through the first four Summit League contests.

The Coyotes have four players that have scored three goals this season in Shaylee Gailus, Joana Zanin, Cotter, and Ravelo. Cotter's five assists on the season rank second in the Summit League while her 11 points rank eighth in the conference. Ashby Johnston is the only other Coyote to have multiple assists this season.

The Tommies
St. Thomas is still in the midst of transitioning to Division I after jumping from Division III last season. UST owns a 6-4-3 record this season including a 1-2 record in Summit play. The Tommies are coming off a 1-3 loss at the hands of South Dakota State on Friday afternoon.

St. Thomas is led by sophomore Mariah Nguyen who has four goals and 12 points on the season. Sophomore Camryn Rintoul is second on the team with three goals and six points this year. Goalkeeper Annie Bantner is one of the best goalies in the conference as she ranks third with a .964 goals against average but has played nearly double the minutes as the top-two in the league. Bantner has started 12 of the 13 games this year and has totaled 1,119 minutes. She also is sixth in the conference with 48 saves in 2022.

One Last Thing
Sunday's game will be the first time the Coyotes have played in the state of Minnesota since the 2009 season when they went to the University of Minnesota in the non-conference slate.
