Alexis Mitchell has been invited to the preseason camp for the Washington Spirit. Mitchell is one of 38 players selected to the initial player roster as the 2022 National Women's Soccer League Preseason officially begins Feb. 1. The NWSL is the top professional women's soccer league in the United States.
Mitchell, a fifth-year senior from Lee's Summit, Missouri, played in 89 total games for the Coyotes and scored 20 goals over her career. She started in all 18 matches in 2021 for USD and accumulated over 1,600 minutes on the pitch last season. Mitchell also led the team in game-winning goals with four of her six goals being the difference in the game.
"Alexis is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached," said USD head coach
Michael Thomas. "During her time here she constantly was able to step up to different levels of play. She had a great South Dakota career and we are proud of her as she takes her next step in becoming a professional"
Located in Washington, D.C., the Spirit are the reigning champions of the NWSL and set to begin their 10th season in 2022.
