SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—Ten Coyotes, six women and four men, were named to the Summit League's all-academic teams for indoor track and field announced Wednesday by the league office.
Representing the Coyote women are fourth-year junior
Haley Arens, fifth-year senior
Holly Gerberding, third-year sophomore
Carly Haring, third year sophomore
Gen Hirata, second-year freshman
Abrielle Jirele and second-year freshman
Sara Reifenrath. Representing the Coyote men are third-year sophomore
Marshall Faurot, second-year freshman
Eerik Haamer, third-year sophomore
Dylan Kautz and fourth-year junior
Jessie Sullivan.
The only four-time recipients of the league's all-academic honors are Geberding and Sullivan. Three-time recipients include Faurot, Haring and Hirata, while two-time recipients include Arens and Kautz.
Summaries on the indoor accomplishments of all 10 honorees follows.
Haley Arens, a native of Crofton, Nebraska, garnered all-Summit League honors in both the open 800 meters and as a leg of the Coyotes' distance medley relay. She finished runner-up in the 800 meters at the league meet with a personal best time of 2:11.96. She also ran the opening 1,200-meter leg of the championship DMR. She moved to eighth in USD history in the 800 meters with the time. She repeats for the second-straight indoor season on the academic team. Arens owns a 3.94 grade-point average as a biology major.
Marshall Faurot, hailing from Scott City, Kansas, scored 10 points at the Summit League Championships between a pair of events. He earned all-league honors with a third-place finish in the pole vault and then placed fifth in the high jump. He improved to fourth in USD history this season with an indoor best vault of 17-7 ¼ (5.37m) at the Nebraska Tune-Up. This is his third consecutive academic all-league team. Faurot owns a 3.77 grade-point average as a kinesiology and sport management major.
Holly Gerberding, a native of Sturgis, South Dakota, scored 10 points at the Summit League Championships between a pair of events. She earned all-league honors in the pentathlon with a third-place finish and placed fifth in the open long jump. She notched a personal best pentathlon score of 3,810 points at the Adidas Classic this season, which moved her to fourth in USD history. This marks her fourth career academic all-league team. Gerberding owns a 4.00 grade-point average after her first semester of graduate school, while she graduated with a 3.94 GPA and bachelor's degree in medical biology in 2021.
Eerik Haamer, hailing from Tartu, Estonia, earned second-team All-America honors in the pole vault this season as one of four Summit League athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Haamer was the league champion in the vault. His season-best of 18-1 (5.51m) came at the Ichabod Mid-Week Challenge. He receives the recognition in his first season of eligibility. Haamer owns a 3.80 grade-point average as a media and journalism major.
Carly Haring, a native of Mitchell, South Dakota, earned all-Summit League honors in the high jump with a runner-up finish. She cleared a season-best height of 5-8 ¾ (1.75m) at the league meet. This marks her third career academic all-league honor. Haring owns a 4.00 grade-point average as a medical biology major.
Gen Hirata, hailing from Fredericksburg, Virginia, garnered all-Summit League honors in the pole vault with a runner-up finish. She cleared a season-best 14-2 ¾ (4.34m) at the Ichabod Mid-Week Challenge. This marks her third academic recognition from the league. Hirata carries a 3.95 grade-point average as a media and journalism major.
Abriele Jirele, hailing from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, totaled 18 points at the Summit League Championships and earned all-league honors in three different events. She placed third in the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters at the Summit meet. This season, she moved to second in USD program history in both the mile (4:51.52) and the 3,000 meters (9:40.36). She also climbed to eighth in program history in the 5,000 meters (16:59.41). She has made the academic all-league team in her first season of eligibility. Jirele boasts a 4.00 grade-point average as a communication sciences major.
Dylan Kautz, a native of Norfolk, Nebraska, scored 19 points at the Summit League Championships for the fourth-most by a single athlete in the men's field. He was the Summit champion in the 60 meters, finished runner-up in the 200 meters and ran on the Coyotes' 4x400-meter relay. Kautz broke the school record in the 60 meters at the league meet with a clocking of 6.68 seconds. He also moved to second in program history in the 200 meters with a time of 21.39 seconds. He repeats for the second-straight indoor season on the academic team. Kautz owns a 3.86 grade-point average as a business major.
Sara Reifenrath, a native of Hartington, Nebraska, was named the Summit League Most Outstanding Performer of the Championship. She took home three gold medals, sweeping the 200 meters, 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay for 22.50 points at the Summit League Championships. Reifenrath broke both the school and Summit meet record with a time of 23.52 in the 200 meters. The 4x400-meter relay she anchored also broke the school and meet records, clocking 3:42.90. She has made the academic all-league team in her first season of eligibility. Reifenrath carries a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a general studies major.
Jessie Sullivan, hailing from Albion, Nebraska, earned all-Summit honors in both throwing events at the league meet to score 14 points for the Coyotes. He finished runner-up in the weight throw and placed third in the shot put at the Summit League Championships. During the indoor season, he moved to second in program history in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put. Sullivan was the 2020-21 Summit League Scholar Athlete of the Year. This marks his fourth career academic all-league team. Sullivan boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a chemistry major.
