South Dakota adds 10 track and field athletes

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota director of track and field/cross country Lucky Huber is pleased to announce the addition of Daniel Ayoroa, Isabella Bricker, Mark Daley, Seth Fey, Cason Johannes, Nate Nielsen, Lillian Ofert, Kinsley Ragland, John Swotek and Hannah Wasson to the roster for the 2022-23 season.

Daniel Ayoroa | Distance | Huron, S.D. | James Valley Christian HS | Psychology
 
A three-time state medalist at the South Dakota cross country championships, Daniel Ayoroa helped James Valley Christian capture the 2018 South Dakota Class B team title. He owns the James Valley Christian school record on the cross country course, clocking 16:04 over 5,000 meters. On the track, he owns personal bests of 4:43 for 1,600 meters and 10:31 for 3,200 meters. An honor roll student, Ayoroa plans to major in psychology at South Dakota.
 
Isabella Bricker | Distance | Gretna, Neb. | Gretna HS | Biomedical Engineering
 
A super-state honoree in cross country, Isabella Bricker placed 13th individually at the 2021 Nebraska Cross Country Championships. She added a seventh-place medal in the 3,200 meters at the 2022 Nebraska Track & Field Championships. She also qualified for the state meet in the 1,600 meters as a junior and senior. Bricker owns a personal best of 19:39 for 5,000 meters on the cross country course, 5:14 for 1,600 meters and 11:21 for 3,200 meters on the track. She garnered all-academic honors from the Metro Conference in both cross country and track & field. An honor roll student and National Honor Society member, Bricker plans to major in biomedical engineering at South Dakota.
 
Mark Daley | Sprints | Hopewell, Jamaica | Herbert Morrison Technical HS
 
A sprinter from Hopewell, Jamaica, Mark Daley garnered the bronze medal in the 100 meters at the 2022 Jamaican Under-20 Championships, clocking 10.51 seconds in the race. He owns a personal best of 10.44 seconds for the distance. Daley also snagged a silver medal in the 200 meters and a bronze in the 400 meters at the COCAA Western Chamiponships. He's clocked personal bests of 21.35 seconds for 200 meters and 48.60 seconds for 400 meters.
 
Seth Fey | Distance | Omaha, Neb. | Millard West HS | Mathematics
 
A distance runner out of Omaha, Nebraska, Seth Fey helped the Wildcats garner back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Nebraska Cross Country Championships in 2020 and 2021. The squad went on to place second at the 2021 Nike Cross Regionals and take 25th at the Garmin Running Lane Cross Country Nationals. Fey holds personal bests of 15:38.05 on the cross country course and 4:38.62 for 1,600 meters on the track. Fey also earned a varsity letter in both soccer and swimming & diving at Millard West. He was the Nebraska state champion in the triathlon in 2020 and took the bronze in 2021. An honor roll student, Fey plans to major in mathematics at South Dakota.
 
Cason Johannes | Sprints | Sheldon, Iowa | Sheldon HS | Pre-Chiropractic
 
A sprinter from Sheldon, Iowa, Cason Johannes brought home three medals from the 2022 Iowa State Track and Field Championships. He placed fourth in the 400 meters, seventh in the 200 meters and anchored Sheldon's eighth-place sprint medley. He broke Sheldon High School records in all three events, clocking a personal best 49.35 seconds for the 400 meters at the state meet and 22.56 seconds in the 200 meters. Johannes also qualified for state wrestling as a junior and senior, and was a member of the Orabs' football team.
 
Nate Nielsen | Throws | Sioux Falls, S.D. | Harrisburg HS | Music Education
 
A thrower out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Nate Nielsen qualified for the South Dakota State Track and Field Championships as a junior and senior in the discus. He owns personal bests of 143-8 in the discus, 119-0 in the javelin and 42-0 in the shot put. In addition to track and field, he played football and basketball for the Tigers. He's also a recipient of the David Juhle Award and a regent scholar. Nielsen plans to major in music education at South Dakota.
 
Lillian Ofert | Distance | Moville, Iowa | Woodbury Central HS | Criminal Justice
 
A distance runner from Moville, Iowa, Lillian Ofert anchored Kingsley Pierson's 1,600-meter medley relay at the 2022 Iowa State Track and Field Championships. She was a member of three Western Valley Conference championship teams on the track, individually placing fourth in the 1,500 meters as a senior. She also ran varsity cross country and played basketball, starting at point guard as a senior. A four-time academic all-Western Valley Conference honoree, she received the distinguished in academic achievement award from the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union in cross country, basketball and track and field. A National Honor Society member, she plans to major in criminal justice at USD.
 
Kinsley Ragland | Throws | Lincoln, Neb. | North Star HS | Education
 
A thrower from Lincoln, Nebraska, Kinsley Ragland was a four-year varsity letterwinner at North Star High School. She owns personal bests of 40-1 in the shot put and 99-10 in the discus. She also competed for the Gators in volleyball, basketball and unified bowling. She garnered academic all-state and academic all-conference honors on the track. An honor roll student, Ragland plans to major in education at USD.
 
John Swotek | Distance | Lincoln, Neb. | Malcom HS | Iowa Western CC | Business Administration
 
A transfer from Iowa Western Community College, John Swotek helped IWCC finish runner-up at the national cross country meet last fall, place third in indoor track and second for outdoor track. Swotek clocked collegiate bests of 26:58 for 8,000 meters on the cross country course, 4:09 for 1,500 meters and 1:59 for 800 meters on the track. The collegiate success continued over from a prep career where Swotek helped Malcom High School win a pair of Nebraska state titles and finish runner-up the other two years in cross country. Individually he medaled twice, with a top finish of fourth place. He also played baseball for the Clippers in high school. Swotek plans to major in business administration at USD.
 
Hannah Wasson | Jumps| Rapid City, S.D. | Stevens HS | Nursing
 
A native of Rapid City, South Dakota, Hannah Wasson joins the track and field squad for her sophomore year at USD after spending last season as a Coyote cheerleader. Wasson participated in track and field, gymnastics, competitive cheer and was a cheer captain in high school. She owns a prep best of 34-0 ½ in the triple jump. An honor roll student, Wasson is majoring in nursing at USD.
