HOMER, Neb.—South Dakota men's golf turned in a final round team score of 290 (2-under) to surpass Green Bay and place seventh at a tournament the Coyotes hosted at Landmand Golf Club Tuesday and Wednesday.
Â
Creighton was the hands-down winner at 35-under, 30 strokes clear of second-place South Dakota State. Indian Hills Community College saw Gaspar Glaudas tie the course record with a 7-under 66 Wednesday and placed third in the team standings at even par.
Â
The team race lacked drama, but the individual race had plenty.
Â
Creighton's Shaun Campbell carded rounds of 67 and 69 to take a three-stroke lead on South Dakota State's Luke Honner heading into the final round. But Campbell was 5-over on his round through 14 holes and Honner had a three-stroke lead with four to play.
Â
Campbell birdied 15, 16 and 17 to close within one, and after Honner just missed a birdie putt on the par 5 18
th, Campbell drilled an eagle from a similar distance to walk off with a one-stroke win.
Â
Cole Witherow fired a final round 70 to move up 21 spots and into 11
th place in the individual race. He was South Dakota's top finisher at 2-over on the tournament.
Max Schmidtke also shot 70 in round three and was 16
th at 4-over.
Â
The tournament marked the fourth for South Dakota this fall. The Coyotes conclude fall play Oct. 29-31 in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
