10.03.2023

TACOMA, Wash.—South Dakota sophomore Emma Henningsson used a career-best round of 69 (3-under) Tuesday to place fifth at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. Henningsson finished the two-day, 54-hole event at 1-under, making her the second golfer in program history to finish a 54-hole event under par.

South Dakota shot 290 as a team Tuesday to place 10th in a tournament that featured 22 teams. Summit League foes North Dakota State and North Dakota finished 16th and 19th, respectively. Grand Canyon won the team competition at 2-over par, three strokes better than second-place Nevada. Santa Clara placed third at 12-over.

Henningsson's 69 followed Monday's rounds of 74 and 72. It is the third-best, under-par round in program history. Henningsson, who had a top-10 finish last year, notched her first collegiate top-five finish.

Teammate Catie Nekola placed 31st at 6-over par with scores of 73, 76 and 73. Ella Greenberg was 54th at 10-over par. Alexa Wingnean shot a career-best 71 Tuesday and finished at 14-over par for the tournament. Lara Gehring was 18-over. Nearly 120 competitors participated in the meet.

The tournament was the fourth of the fall season for South Dakota. The Coyotes' final fall invitational takes place Oct. 14-16 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
