USD hosts tournament starting Tuesday

10.09.2023

South Dakota will host the Throwdown Up Top at Landmand in Homer, Nebraska, this week. The two-day event begins Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Participants will play 36 holes on Tuesday and 18 on Wednesday.

The tournament will be held at Landmand Golf Club in Homer, Nebraska. Situated just 43 miles from campus, Landmand opened to the public last year and was named best new public golf course in America by Golf Digest. The par 73 course spans 7200 yards over 550 acres of old farmland.

The standout feature of Landmand is its size. The course's putting surfaces average 14,000 square feet, over double the average American green. The green on holes five, 15, and 17 are more than 25,000 square feet. The vastness of the course is aided by rolling slopes, sections, crowns, and internal contours that differentiate Landmand from other courses in the area.

The field consists of eight teams with 60 total participants, including individual players. The Summit League is heavily represented in the Throw Down Up Top with South Dakota State, Omaha, and North Dakota participating. Other teams include Creighton, Green Bay and Indian Hills Community College.

South Dakota will send eight men to the Throw Down Up Top at Landmand.

Five Coyotes will contribute to the team score and three will play individually. Max Schmidtke is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational in Des Moines. Nick LaMotte has a team-best stroke average of 71.6. They will be joined on the team side by Ryan Neff, Cole Witherow and Logan Hamak. Danny Renner, Joe Rohlwing and Parker Etzel will compete individually. Renner will be making his season debut.
