Hamak, Holtz sign with USD

11.08.2023

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota head men's golf coach John Vining is pleased to announce that Lance Hamak of Sartell, Minnesota, and Jack Holtz of Alexandria, Minnesota, have signed a national letter of intent to join the Coyotes in the fall of 2024.

Hamak is the brother of current Coyote Logan Hamak and the son of Brent and Christie Hamak. He holds the Sartell High School and Central Lakes Conference records for lowest 18-hole score with a 65 at Alexandria Golf Club. Hamak led the Sabres to their first conference championship in more than 40 years, shooting a 66 in the final round.

"Lance will be a great addition to our program," said Vining. "He has a proven ability to score at a high level and has set records in a conference in Minnesota that has a rich golf history. I am most excited about Lance's love for the game. He is ready to take on the challenges of collegiate golf."

Hamak earned the 2023 Central Lakes Conference season champion title with a stroke average of 68.5, the lowest scoring record for the conference. He plans to study finance at USD.

Holtz is the son of David and Nicole Holtz and plans to study business management at USD. He holds a personal-best, 18-hole score of 63 and maintains a 72.5 scoring average. Holtz is the 2023 Minnesota State Junior Boys Champion and has been the Central Lakes District Champion three years running.

"We are excited to have Jack officially join our program," said Vining. "Jack has no ceiling; he is a fiery competitor who wants to keep getting better. Incredibly, he has only been playing golf since 2020 and in three-and-a-half years became a state junior champion. This is only the beginning for Jack."

Holtz led Alexandria Area to a third-place finish at the Minnesota state championship meet. He is a member of the honor roll and a National Honor Society member.
