ST. LOUIS—South Dakota's
Brock Mogensen (first team),
Will Leyland (second team) and
Sam Kohls (honorable mention) are among the 43 student-athletes named to the 2023 all-Missouri Valley Football Conference Scholar-Athlete Team announced Tuesday.

Mogensen, a sixth-year senior linebacker from Farmington, Minnesota, is a three-time all-MVFC honoree and the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. He maintains a 4.0 graduate GPA while studying educational administration and leadership. Mogensen is the fourth-leading tackler in program history with 395 career stops which is third among active FCS players.

Leyland is a fourth-year sophomore operational analytics major from Souderton, Pennsylvania, who carries a 3.80 GPA. He earned second-team all-MVFC honors and is a top-10 finalist for the Fred Mitchell Award which celebrates excellence on the field and in the community. He is the only FCS player yet to miss a kick this season. He is 12-for-12 in field goals and 36-for-36 on extra points.

Kohls is a third-year sophomore left guard from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He carries a 3.95 GPA while majoring in sport marketing and media. Kohls has started 10 consecutive games at left guard for a team that ranked second nationally in fewest tackles-for-loss allowed during the regular season. He aids a unit that has surpassed 400 yards of offense five times this season.
