Big Defensive Day Lands Gary Bryant MVFC Defensive Weekly Honor

10.14.2024

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — For the second consecutive week, a Coyote earns a Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) weekly award. Sophomore linebacker Gary Bryant III anchored the University of South Dakota defense earning MVFC Defensive Player of the Week accolades, the league office announced this morning.
Bryant (So., Baltimore, Md.) sat tied for the game-best 11 tackles to anchor the defense in the 42-17 win over the Northern Iowa Panthers on Saturday.

The 8,400+ people inside the DakotaDome were treated to a defensive showcase by the linebacker. Right before the half, with South Dakota leading 28-10 and the Panthers driving, Bryant could not have chosen a better time to get his first-career interception. The pick would keep UNI off the board and put the momentum squarely on the Coyotes side.
Additionally, the Maryland native also recorded a tackle for loss in the victory and helped anchor the defensive unit that allowed just 56 rushing yards.

Bryant leads the team with his 47 tackles and averages 7.8 tackles per game. Both marks sit top-10 in the MVFC. He sits seventh in tackles per game and eighth in total tackles.

The sophomore becomes the third Coyote to earn a MVFC Player of the Week honors this season. He joins Keyondray Jones-Logan (Special Teams, Northern State) and Quaron Adams (Newcomer, Murray State) in weekly honors.
