VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Lucky Huber is pleased to announce additions to the 2024 incoming class. New additions to the class include:
Andrew Atwood,
Terina Blascyk,
Abe Gunnare,
Tommy Hensley,
Aidan Hedderman,
Beau Karst,
Reece Snow, and
Trevor Thomsen.
The Coyotes signed 25 athletes last winter and only added to that total this spring and summer. The incoming class rounds out at 33 athletes.
The Coyotes also added two transfers to the roster in
Calli Davis and
Erynn Gerlach.
Andrew Atwood | Middle Distance | Beresford, South Dakota | Beresford HS
Just a short drive from Vermillion,
Andrew Atwood is a native of Beresford South Dakota. He is a middle distance runner who won a state championship in the 1,600-meters and is a school record holder in the 800 and 1,600. He holds personal bests of 50.14 in the 400, 1:55.84 in the 800, and 4:19.74 in the 1,600. Atwood is the fourth sibling in his family to attend USD.
Terina Blascyk | Jumps | Hoffman, Minn. | West Central Area Secondary School
Hailing from Hoffman, Minnesota,
Terina Blascyk is a conference champion and state qualifier in the high jump. She was the top finisher in the event three times, including at her conference meet. Blascyk has a personal best of 5-2 and also competed in the 200 in high school, setting a personal best of 29.31.
Abe Gunnare | Throws | Mitchell, South Dakota | Mitchell HS
A native of Mitchell, South Dakota,
Abe Gunnare will specialize in the discus for the Coyotes. He improved his personal best in the event by more than 20 feet from his junior to his senior seasons. He was a three-sport standout at Mitchell High School, playing basketball and running cross country in addition to throwing. Gunnare plans to major in psychology at South Dakota.
Tommy Hensley | Middle Distance | Urbandale, Iowa | Urbandale HS
Hailing from Urbandale, Iowa,
Tommy Hensley clocked a personal best time of 1:53.68 at the 2024 New Balance Indoor Nationals to finish 17th overall in the 800 meters. He also posted a personal best of 4:16 at the WISCO Mile this outdoor season. Hensley is a five-time state medalist at the Iowa Class 4A Track and Field Championships. He placed third in both the 800 meters and the distance medley relay at the Drake Relays during his senior campaign. Hensley also garnered all-state honors in cross country with a personal best of 15:24 for 5,000 meters on the course. He's an academic all-conference and academic all-state honoree. A member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student, Hensley plans to major in business at South Dakota.
Aidan Hedderman | Hurdles | Sturgis, South Dakota | Sturgis Brown HS
A native of Sturgis, South Dakota,
Aidan Hedderman is a two-time South Dakota state champion in the 110-meter hurdles. He also won the 110 hurdles at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. He owns the Sturgis Brown High School record for the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.47 seconds and has a personal best of 40.4 in the 300 hurdles. Hedderman was an all-state football player for the Scoopers. He plans to major in psychology at South Dakota.
Beau Karst | Pole Vault | Harrisburg, South Dakota | Harrisburg HS
A native of Harrisburg, South Dakota,
Beau Karst was the 2024 South Dakota Class AA Field MVP following the state championships where he took the all-class gold. Karst set a state meet record by vaulting a personal best height of 16-4. He was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Tigers and improved his personal best by more than five feet from his freshman to senior year. He also played football for the Tigers. An honor roll student and academic all-state honoree, Karst plans to major in kinesiology and sport management at South Dakota.
Reece Snow | Sprints | Bismarck, North Dakota | Legacy HS
Hailing from Bismarck, North Dakota,
Reece Snow was a member of national championship 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams with the Sabers. He was also on Legacy's state championship 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay squads, while placing third at the North Dakota state meet in the open 100 meters. He owns personal bests of 10.75 seconds for the 100 meters and 21.76 seconds for the 200 meters. Snow was an all-conference selection in soccer and football for the Sabers, while also earning all-state honors on the soccer pitch.
Trevor Thomsen | Distance | Rapid City, South Dakota |Central HS
A native of Rapid City, South Dakota,
Trevor Thomsen was a two-time place winner on the track for Central High School as a senior. He was a four-time letterwinner on the track and three-time letterwinner in cross country. He was named the "Top Cobbler" at Central. Thomsen was the President of the National Honor Society and ranked in the top three percent of his graduating class. He plans to major in accounting and finance at South Dakota.
Calli Davis | Sprints | Elk Point, South Dakota | Mount Marty University
Davis is a graduate transfer from Mount Marty University. She placed ninth in the 400 meters at the NAIA national meet. She owns collegiate bests of 56.05 seconds for 400 meters and 25.21 seconds for 200 meters. Davis was a two-time A. O. Duer Scholar Award winner, presented annually to NAIA athletes who excel in scholarship, character and citizenship.
A native of Elk Point, South Dakota, Davis was a four-time placewinner at the South Dakota state meet. She owned a prep best of 59.93 seconds for the 400 meters. She also competed in cross country, basketball and softball at Elk Point-Jefferson High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society.
Erynn Gerlach | Sprints | Corsica, South Dakota | Dakota Wesleyan University
Gerlach transfers to South Dakota after competing during the 2022-23 school year with Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. At Dakota Wesleyan, Gerlach made her way into the Top 10 lists in both the 200 and 400 with bests of 27.34 in the 200 and 1:01.27 in the 400. She placed 11
th in the 400 and 20
th in the 200 at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Meet in 2023.
Hailing from Corsica, South Dakota, Gerlach attended Ethan High School, where she was a part of two school record relay teams. She was a state qualifier in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Gerlach was also a member of the Ethan High FCCLA and FFA and was an all-State Choir performer. She was a member of the National Honor Society.
