PREVIEW: Coyotes welcome Kansas City, NDSU to SCSC

VERMILLION, S.D. — Coyote volleyball returns to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center for a pair of matches this week against Kansas City Thursday and North Dakota State Saturday. South Dakota is now 11-5 on the season and 3-2 in Summit League play following a 3-2 win over North Dakota last Thursday.

About the Yotes
  • The Coyotes return to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center following a 3-2 win in their lone match last week at North Dakota.
  • The Coyotes are now 3-0 in road Summit League matches.
  • Last Thursday's win was just the third match to go to five sets, with the Yotes holding a 2-1 record in five setters.
  • Kylen Sealock matched a career-high with 21 kills against the Fighting Hawks on a .367 hitting percentage. Sealock also tallied 21 kills in the season-opening sweep of Fordham on August 31.
  • Avery Van Hook continues to pace the Summit League in assists per set (10.45) and ranks No. 24 in the NCAA. Her 627 assists rank No. 2 in the conference.
  • The sophomore setter has also registered52 kills on a .306 attack rate and has 20.0 blocks.
  • Kamryn Farris ranks No. 2 in digs (269) and digs per set (4.41) among Summit League players.
  • Farris has recorded double-digit digs in 14 matches and in 12 straight. Farris' 21 digs against North Dakota marked the fourth time she's eclipsed the 20-dig mark this season.
  • Morgan Bode holds a team leading .260 attack percentage, which ranks No. 11 in the Summit League.
  • Bode also leads the team in blocks (59.0) and ranks No. 7 in total blocks in the conference.
  • Entering the weekend, USD ranks No.1 among Summit League teams in assists per set (12.39), No. 2 in digs per set (15.95), No. 3 in hitting percentage (.216) and are No. 1 in kills per set (13.66).
  • Kansas City won both meetings against the Coyotes last season, while USD were 2-1 against the Bison last year.
  • The Coyotes have earned either a Summit League Regular Season Title or Tournament Championship in each of the last six seasons.
  • Leanne Williamson is in her 11th season as the head coach of the Coyotes and holds the record for most win by a USD head coach with a 221-96 record (.697).
 
 
Yotes in the Rankings
  • The Coyotes enter this weekend's slate of play ranked No. 28 in the NCAA in kills per set (13.66).
  • The USD attack is paced by senior Kylen Sealock and freshman Lauren Medeck who are averaging 3.24 and 2.59 kills per set, respectively.
  • Sealock ranks No. 5 in the Summit League, while Medeck is No. 11 in kills per set.
  • Avery Van Hook's 10.45 assists per set ranks No. 24 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the conference.
  • Van Hook is the only Summit League setter averaging double-digit assists per set.
  • Van Hook has 627 total assists on the season.
  • Kamryn Farris ranks No. 2 in the Summit League in both digs and digs per set with 268 and 4.41.

    You've Been Blocked
  • The Coyotes blocked a season-high 16.0 blocks against the Fighting Hawks last week.
  • It was the sixth time this season USD has recorded 10+ blocks in a match.
  • Freshman Morgan Bode recorded a new career-high nine blocks.
  • Bode leads the team with 59.0 blocks on the season.
  • Amanda Loschen tallied both of USD's two solo blocks and took part in five other blocks.
 
Summit League Success
  • In each of the past six seasons, the Coyotes have either earned a Summit League Regular Season Title or Conference Tournament Championship.
  • Since 2018, the Coyotes are 86-17 (83.5%) during the conference regular season and won at least 12 conference games and lost no more than four matches during that stretch.
  • South Dakota is the most recent Summit League team to put together an undefeated conference regular season, when the team went a perfect 16-0 during the 2019 season.

    Locked In
  • Kylen Sealock continues her steady play on the outside for the Yotes, as she paces the teams in kills per set (3.24).
  • Sealock's registered double-digit kills in 10 matches, and in five of those she hit at a .350+ clip.
  • Sealock's matched her career-high of 21 kills twice this season in a 3-1 win over Fordham on Aug. 31 and in a 3-2 win over North Dakota on Oct. 10.
  • Over her last six matches, Sealock has reached double-figures in five of those contests and is averaging 13.8 kills per match over that span.
     
On Deck
  • Lauren Medeck ranks second on the team in kills (158) and digs (156). She is tied for third in aces (10) and fourth in blocks (29.0).
  • Medeck has six double-doubles on the season, all with kills and digs.
  • In USD's final match of the South Dakota Classic, Medeck put away a career-high 20 kills to go with a career-best 18 digs in the Yotes 3-2 win over Montana State.
  • Medeck put away a team best and then career high 17 kills in the Coyotes 3-1 win over RV Missouri on Sept. 8
  • Medeck also recorded her first double-double against the Tigers with 12 digs.
  • Medeck led the Coyotes in kills for the first time in her career the game prior, a 3-0 loss to Northern Kentucky with 11 kills. It also marked first match with double-digit kills.
  • In the match against NKU, Medeck caught fire in the second set, putting down 10 kills in the frame.

Hlady's Hammer
  • Cheyenne Hlady ranks third on the team with 123 kills on a .238 attack rate.
  • Hlady put away a career-high 15 kills in the Coyotes nonconference finale against Saint Louis with a .367 hitting percentage.
  • Hlady has registered double-digit kills in five matches, hit over .300 seven times and tallied multiple blocks in six matches.

    Dropping Dimes
  • Avery Van Hook's 10.45 assists per set average ranks No. 1 across Summit League setters and ranks No. 24 nationally.
  • Van Hook dished out 51 assists in two straight matches to close out the Kwik Star Klassic and has hit the 50-assist mark three times this season and six times in her career.
  • The sophomore setter tallied her 1,000th career assist in the Coyotes match against #4 Louisville.

    Can You Dig It?
  • Kamryn Farris has commanded the Coyote back row, leading the team in digs in 15 of the first 16 matches.
  • Farris matched a career-high of 30 digs in the Yotes win over Drake.
  • She reached the 30-dig mark last season in a five-set win over South Dakota State.
  • Farris has recorded double-digit digs in 15 matches so far this season and has hit the 20+ dig mark four times.
