Coyotes complete regular season sweep of Fighting Hawks

VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota volleyball completed its regular season sweep of North Dakota Thursday night in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center with a 3-1 win. The Yotes improve to 16-6 on the season, 8-3 in Summit League play and 7-2 at the SCSC.
 
Kylen Sealock was the only player to reach double-digit kills in the match with 13 to go with one block. The Coyote middles were active on the block, and efficient on the offensive side, as Morgan Bode had eight kills, seven blocks and a .462 hitting percentage, and Amanda Loschen had eight kills, four blocks and a .438 clip.
 
Kamryn Farris dug up a team-high 17 balls and had two services aces on the night. Avery Van Hook dished out 31 assists and had a double-double with 13 digs.
 
Lauren Medeck put away four kills on seven swings in the opening frame, while Van Hook dished out nine helpers and put away three kills of her own. The Yotes outhit the Fighting Hawks in first set .258 to .235, but it was UND who would take the set 25-23 following a 6-2 run.
 
South Dakota's block picked up in the second set with six blocks in the frame. Loschen was in on three blocks in the set, while Medeck, Bode and Cheyenne Hlady were all involved with two. For a second set in a row, the Yotes held on to a slight lead late, but after a pair of UND points, the set score was tied at 22-22. The Coyotes scored three straight to take set two 25-22 following a pair of Fighting Hawks errors and a Cora Hokenstad ace.
 
The Coyotes utilized a 10-3 run in the middle of the third to take command of the set, 17-8. Bode was in on three of four straight points for the Yotes with two kills and teamed up for a block with Sealock. UND would make things interesting late with an 8-1 run, to pull within four, 22-18. Van Hook ended the Hawks run with a dump kill, Barrett Power followed with a service ace, and Loschen closed out the 25-18 set win with a kill. Loschen terminated four kills on five swings in the third with no errors.
 
An 11-3 streak in the fourth frame would pull the Coyotes closer to the 3-1 victory, as they held a 21-10 advantage. Sealock had three kills in the run, Bode had two blocks and Van Hook had a kill and a block. After a pair of points from the Hawks, USD scored four straight to close out the 3-1 match win. Medeck and Bode teamed up for the block to start the four-point swing, while Power notched her second ace of the night. Following a Van Hook and Loschen block, and a UND error, the Coyotes closed out their seventh win of the season at the SCSC.
 
The Coyotes are back in action in the SCSC Saturday for a Senior Day matchup against Oral Roberts. South Dakota will recognize its five seniors following the match.
