LINCOLN, Neb. – South Dakota swimming and diving teams opened its 2024-2025 season by taking on Nebraska and Minnesota in a double dual inside the Devaney Natatorium on Friday.
The Coyote women suffered dual losses to both Nebraska (226-74) and Minnesota (251-49) while the Minnesota men earned a 241-59 win over the Coyote men.
Nick Rounds, a freshman from West Des Moines, Iowa, earned an individual victory in his first collegiate race when he touched the wall first in the 50 free in 20.98 seconds.
Alex Parkinson, a freshman from Naperville, Illinois, opened his collegiate career with a runner-up in the 1000 free in 9:38.29, a time good enough to move into the Coyote Top Ten charts at third-best all-time.
Joaquin Contreras-Fallico, a sophomore from Wheat Ridge, Colorado, had a pair of third-place finishes during the meet clocking 50.44 in the 100 backstroke and 1:52.94 in the 200 backstroke.

Gabbie Ahrendt and
Sara Mayer all earned fifth-place finishes for the women's team in the double dual with Nebraska and Minnesota.
DiProspero, a freshman from Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, touched the wall in 10:37.78 in the 1000 freestyle and came back to clock 5:10.14 in the 500 free.
Ahrendt, a sophomore, finished in 1:55.70 in the 200 free while Mayer, a senior, was clocked in 58.12 in the 100 fly.
South Dakota women return to the pool on Saturday in a home dual against Minnesota State at 1 p.m. inside the DakotaDome Pool.
